EWI Adds Renowned Additive Manufacturing Expert To Buffalo Team

headshot 2Buffalo, NY – EWI is pleased to announce that Francisco Medina, Jr. Ph.D., a leading edge expert in additive manufacturing (AM), will join the growing team at Buffalo Manufacturing Works as Principal Engineer. Medina comes to Buffalo from Arcam, where he was managing its North America relationships and R&D activities at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Prior to his work with Arcam, Medina was Center Manager for the University of Texas at El Paso W.M. Keck Center for 3D Innovation which explores material extrusion, binder jetting, and powder bed fusion processes.

EWI Adds Project Engineer, Continues to Build Buffalo Manufacturing Works Team

SamantBuffalo, NY – EWI announced that it has added a project engineer to its team of engineers focused on developing, testing, and deploying emerging and innovative additive manufacturing processes at Buffalo Manufacturing Works, a world-class advanced manufacturing center that is part of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s Buffalo Billion initiative.

Rutuja Samant comes to Buffalo Manufacturing Works after earning her Masters in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Additive Manufacturing (AM) at the University of Cincinnati. Most recently, Rutuja was employed as a Graduate Research Assistant working closely with the engineers in the AM Department at GE’s Global Research Center.

Samant will be working with leading-edge additive manufacturing equipment at Buffalo Manufacturing Works including the Arcam A2X, which is now up and running at the facility. The Arcam is a 3D printer that uses a powerful electron beam to build parts layer-by-layer using metal powder. As a project engineer, Rutuja is working to apply the emerging field of “Design for Additive Manufacturing” to today’s manufacturing challenges.
