EWI, Fabrisonic to host Hands-On AM Workshop in conjunction with MS&T18

ewi-logo-new12Are you attending the Materials Science & Technology conference October 14-18 in Columbus, Ohio? If so, take advantage of the TMS-sponsored Hands-on Additive Manufacturing Workshop being offered at the Columbus headquarters of EWI and Fabrisonic on Sunday, October 14, 8:30 am-12:00 noon.

Fabrisonic logoThe workshop will be lead by a team of EWI and Fabrisonic AM specialists with a wide variety of experience in all current AM processes. Participants will have the opportunity to not only see, but also to touch, smell, and hear the various processes in action and observe the construction of relevant parts being built. Featured areas will include:

  • Powder bed fusion
  • Directed energy deposition (blown powder and wire fed arc)
  • 3D printing with arc welding
  • Laser cold-wire
  • Sheet lamination (ultrasonic additive manufacturing)

EWIDeveloped to supplement TMS’s successful and long-running Additive Manufacturing and Materials Processes Workshop (an introductory-level additive-related professional development program, which will also be offered at MS&T18), this half-day workshop offers an opportunity to connect theory with application. Transportation from the MS&T meeting to EWI/Fabrisonic will be provided. Those interested in additive manufacturing technologies with a lack of machine experience will benefit the most from this program, regardless of career level or background.

Manufacturing Processes: Surface Engineering and Cold Spray Technology – New Paper

Surface engineering – the range of enabling technologies designed to modify the surface properties of metallic and non-metallic components to improve function or decoration – is becoming a more widely used technology in parts manufacturing throughout all industrial sectors.

As new metals and composites become available for use in manufacturing, companies are challenged with finding the best ways to apply them effectively. Surface engineering technologies are helping to optimize the joining of new and dissimilar materials, as well as support additive manufacturing applications. Most recently, cold spray has gained the attention of both commercial and defense manufacturers.

Lawrence BrownSenior Technical Advisor, Larry Brown has written a new paper, Manufacturing Processes: Surface Engineering and Cold Spray Technology,  which discusses the potential for these processes in production. To download this paper, click here. If you would like to learn more about EWI’s work in this area, please contact [email protected].

EWI Returns to Pack Expo 2018 with EWI UltraThinSeal™

EWI will showcase its state-of-the-art ultrasonic package sealing system at this year’s Pack Expo in Chicago, October 14-17.

EWI UltraThinSeal™ (formerly known as EWI GreenSeal) uses a unique, patented sealing technology to create an ultrasonic seal as narrow as 1mm. The technology offers game-changing efficiencies and benefits throughout the entire value chain from suppliers, to manufacturers, to CPGs, to retailers. The advantages of EWI UltraThinSeal include:

  • reductions in packaging material
  • narrower, more effective sealsEWI-UltraThinSeal_primary-logo_color
  • increased shelf life
  • no need for adhesives
  • reductions in manufacturing waste
  • less energy use than in normal sealing processes

EWI representatives and engineers will be demonstrating the technology live at Booth #E-9238 during the Pack Expo exhibition. Conference attendees can also arrange to have a sealing test performed on their packaging films.

To set up an appointment in advance of Pack Expo, contact Dale Robinson at [email protected] or call 614.688.5232.
