Laser Stirring Approach Improves L-PBF Process for Manufacturing
Laser powder bed fusion is being used with increasing frequency in manufacturing operations. Some L-PBF materials, however, are still prone to stress and cracking.
EWI has created a new “laser stirring” technique that improves results in some of the most common L-PBF alloys including SS316L, Ti-6Al-4V, and Ni718. The results are discussed in Effect of Laser Stirring Scan Strategy on Laser Powder Bed Fusion As-built Microstructure by EWI associates Alber Sadek, Ajay Krishnan, and Ron Aman.
